I can’t quite believe it has been 10 years since I started Colour4Life. I have met so many lovely people and feel proud of being able to help others feel rejuvenated and confident about the way they look. I still get a buzz every time a client sees the colours that really make them look fantastic. So what have I learned about colour analysis in the last 10 years?
Colour analysis can give you confidence
So many clients come to me as they have reached a crossroads in terms of their clothes or style. It may be a lifestyle change, having a baby, recovering from illness or retirement that has made them rethink their wardrobe. Often people find they have fallen out of love with clothes and lack the confidence to shop for new items. It is so easy just to wear black. Having your colours done can truely make a difference to your outlook. Seeing yourself glow as the colours that really suit you are put against your skin can give you a kick start. Feeling confident in yourself can make you feel like anything is possible. What you wear can transform your state of mind and maybe give you the confidence to go for that job, or go on that date! Seeing clients start to feel this is the best part of my job.
Knowing your colours can help you look younger
We all want to look our best but lots of us don’t realise that the colours we are wearing could be making our skin appear dull. The colours you wear reflect up onto your face. Wearing the right colours can make you look younger, brighter and healthier. When performing a colour analysis it is amazing to see this in action. By draping different colours onto someone you can see in the mirror the effect of certain colours. Someone who has always worn black may realise that the colour washes them out but a vibrant teal or a great red can transform their appearance. Once you have seen it for yourself there is no going back!
You become a savvy shopper
Aided by the handy colour swatch wallet in your season of colours, shopping becomes so much more enjoyable. You may find that you buy less but you wear more of the items in your wardrobe. Shopping can be daunting, there is so much to choose from and we are all sometimes tempted by that bargain sale item! However, if you know your colours, you will be able to head straight for the items that you know will suit you. It makes you a more discerning shopper and you will always know that your clothes make you look your best.
You can create the perfect capsule wardrobe
Every colour season has a range of neutrals and building block colours that can be used to create an effective capsule wardrobe. 12 items can create 60 outfits. Capsule wardrobes are great for people who want to make the most of their clothes. Knowing your colours helps you create a range of outfits that make you look great.
Holiday packing will never be stressful again
The idea of a capsule wardrobe can be applied to your holiday wardrobe too. You can plan your packing around your best neutrals and building block colours to avoid having a jam packed case! Take a selection of tops, skirts, shorts and cover ups to mix and match to create numerous outfits. This technique is especially good if you are trying to limit your luggage on budget airlines.
Statement prints will become an important part of your wardrobe
Always keep a look out for patterns and prints in your colours. These items can be used to create lots of different outfits when paired with your best neutrals. Print and pattern can really lift a look and get you noticed. If you see something you love, snap it up!
Effective layering can make all the difference
Many of my clients are not only stuck in a colour rut but also feel that certain styles of clothes don’t suit them. I always enjoy giving style advice to show people how they can wear certain looks. Layering tops of differing lengths and shapes together can be a great way of drawing attention away from your bad bits and bringing some style to your wardrobe. It’s brilliant to give people advice on how to create great outfits.
You can always make the most of your wardrobe
It is so true that so many of us wear 20% of our wardrobe 80% of the time. There are so many items we have that we just never wear. This seems crazy. Once you become a savvy shopper, only buying the clothes that really suit, your wardrobe will be full of clothes you can’t wait to wear, rather than full of forgotten items lurking at the back!
Wardrobe weeding can help you get organised
Yes, this really is part of my job! So many clients have a wardrobe full of clothes but still feel they don’t have anything to wear. However, it is not always easy to be brutal and decide to get rid of things! Let me do it for you! It makes such a difference having someone look through your wardrobe with a fresh pair of eyes. It is not just about throwing things out. There may be items that you own that could be paired with something else to make a great outfit but you didn’t realise. Weeding your wardrobe will remove any unwanted items and help organise your clothes so you never feel like you have nothing to wear again!
Knowing your colours can even help you create the perfect wedding
Knowing your colours can help you plan your wedding day. This knowledge will not only help you decide on the best shade of dress for you and the make up that will make you look amazing. I can help you decide on a theme colour for the big day that can run through the whole wedding from the bridesmaid dresses to the flowers and the table decorations. I have loved planning weddings with clients using my colour analysis knowledge to make an impact.
So these are just a few of the things I have learnt over the years. I am so fortunate to love what I do and always get excited at the prospect of helping someone look great and feel fantastic. Now I have become a Tropic Skincare ambassador there are lots of avenues opening that I am excited to share with you all in the years to come.
